Our community project will take place in the village of Nayapatti, located in the Kathmandu Valley. It involves the construction of bund walls and filters at four water springs and installation of pipelines from these sources to water stands serving three schools in the area and the surrounding community. The water points will serve mostly the scheduled castes and Tamang community - both groups are severely disadvantaged in access to water as higher status castes traditionally refuse them access to theirs. The project is being undertaken in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Rajdhani, Nepal.
During the venture, we are to complete a project of some kind. This could be anything from studying how tourism affects Nepal, to how bad yak's milk tastes compared to cow's milk!
We will be visiting places of interest along the way, such as some of the religious temples. There are many rules to observe in Nepal, many of which are strange to our culture. These include never touching food with the left hand, never sleeping with toes facing a statue, always walking the the right of prayer wheels etc etc.
